Doctors had to perform an operation to remove a ball of hair weighing 15lb from a teenager's stomach after it emerged that she had been consistently cutting her own hair and eating it.
17-year-old Sweety Kumari was rushed to a hospital in Jharkland, eastern India on August 31 after experiencing severe stomach pain and not being able to eat or drink.
After conducting an ultrasound examination, the doctors found out that she had a large chunk of hair had formed in her bowel and is blocking her digestive tract.
Immediately, they carried out a six-hour sugery and removed the 15lb ball of hair from her bowel
According to Dr. Sahu, one of the doctors who performed the surgery, Kumari had a rare condition called the 'Rapunzel Syndrome' - a condition where people pull out their own hair and ingest it.
In Kumari's case, she had been chewing her hair for years, up until the giant hairball formed inside her body, filling up her entire bowel.
She has been admitted from the hospital and is not suffering from any threatening condition.
