The University of Ilorin Teaching Hospital (UITH) has isolated no fewer than 28 healthcare workers, including doctors and nurses who had close contact with the late Muideen Obanimomo.
Obanimomo, who returned from the UK in March, is the index case of COVID-19 in Kwara. He died on the April 2 at the UITH after battling with the virus, which was kept secret by some staffs at the hospital.
Currently, there are only two confirmed cases; Obanimomo's wife and an unrelated UK returnee. It was gathered the burial of the index case in his hometown, Offa, a lot of people had close contact with his wife, who was already infected.
According to the Kwara state government, 75 people who might have been exposed to the virus have been traced. The government has however shutdown Offa and has urged anyone with travel history to frontline destinations in the last three weeks to contact the Kwara State Technical Committee.
