Nigerian man in Japan returns wallet, refuses reward


A Nigerian man in Japan has been praised for being honest after he found and returned a wallet with a huge amount of money.

The man is identified as Mr. Ikenna Nweke, a lecturer and PhD student at Tsukuba University in Tsukuba, Ibraki, Japan. 

Mr Nweke returned a wallet with substential amount of money, credit card and other valuables to the righful owner on Friday, 19th June 2020.

He was duely thanked by the Police of Ibraki and Tsukuba in a letter wtitten to him on the 25th of  June. He was offered a reward for his honesty, but Mr Nweke refused.

"This singular act of honesty that was reported to the mission by Mr. Kennedy Nnaji, the President of Nigerian Union in Japan has demonstrated your veracity and character that is worthy of emulation by all," Nigerian Ambassador to Japan, Mohammed Yisa Gana, said in a letter of commendation.

"On behalf of the Federal Government of Nigeria, kindly accept Ambassador's highest regard and thank you for being a good example to all. We are proud of you," he added.
