Both Precious and his 15-year-old victim, Marvellous Ekrake, were staying with their parents as neighbours.
According to Precious, a woman paid he and Marvellous ₦300 after completing a job for her, but Marvellous insisted that he would take a larger share of the money because he was older. Precious later agreed after reporting to his father.
The stabbing occurred later that day when Precious was playing and Marvellous came looking for trouble. Precious claimed he warned him to stay away from him but he didn't.
Precious fled after stabbing Marvelous, but was arrested through the help of close relatives who brought him to the police station.
Marvellous, a police sergent's son, was pronounced dead last Saturday at the Ughelli Central hospital after sustaining fatal injuries from the stab.
"I never meant to kill him. I just wanted to threatening him with knife. After we completed the job for the woman earlier on that day, we were paid ₦300 and Marvellous decided to take ₦200 which I objected that the money ought to shared equally but he insisted claiming that he would take the larger share because he was older," Precious said while he was interviewed by Vanguard.
"Angered by this, I reported the matter to my father who advised that I allow him to take the money. Later that evening, while he was playing with our toy which I collected from him and threw it inside my father's room. Despite my warning, Marvellous insisted that he would go into my father's room to collect the toy which he did, and it was in that process that he was stabbed, after which I ran away. I didn't know that he would die. I didn't know how the whole incident happened."
