The teenage girl, whose name can't be mentioned due to her age, was arrested on Wednesday after Nimrock Hendricks, 24, was found near a block of flats with stab injuries to the chest.
Hendricks was pronounced dead later on Wednesday at the scene after receiving first-aid treatments from paramedics.
According to the Metro, the authorities also arrested a 21-year-old man on suspicion that he assisted the alleged murderer.
The man is yet to be named by the authorities.
"The circumstances of this case are particularly challenging for everyone involved and will continue to be difficult as people come to terms with significant loss and grief," Detective Chief Inspector Andy Wolstenholme said.
"I would make a personal plea to people to not speculate on social media on the circumstances of the case or the identity or motivation of the defendant, whose name may not legally be published," Detective Wolstenholme added.
Friends and acquaintances of the deceased have expressed sympathy and been leaving flowers on the spot where his body was found.
A friend said: "Nimroy Hendricks you will be missed by so many people bro. Always preaching about peace and love."
