Coronavirus: Two cases confirmed in Kwara

Ever since the COVID-19 epidemic began in Nigeria, the Kwara State government has been continuously putting efforts to prevent the spread of the virus in the state. This includes the banning of social gatherings, shut down of schools, worship places and businesses.

Currently surrounded by states with confirmed cases, Kwara has recorded two positive cases of COVID-19.

Both infected persons are UK returnees and are unrelated. The Kwara State Government has already commenced the tracking of people who have been exposed to the virus.

"Report reaching me from the Kwara State Technical Committee sadly confirms two cases of COVID-19 in our state. One is a wife of the UITH patient, a UK returnee who died last week Thursday. And the other is a Uk returnee who is unrelated to the deceased," Kwara state governor, Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq said in a tweet on his official Twitter handle.

In April 3, the Kwara State Government debunked the rumor that a UK returnee who died in Ilorin had coronavirus. It was later revelaed that the man, who is now deceased, and his close family members were trying to 'shield' his positive status. The Kwara State Government conducted tests on six people that had close contact with the man, but they all tested negative.

“Findings by the medical advisory subcommittee revealed that the patient and his wife arrived from the United Kingdom and reportedly came to Ilorin on March 20.
“The patient went into self-quarantine without reaching out to the government or the technical committee. On the 13th day of the self-quarantine, he suddenly had difficulties breathing after reportedly eating dinner and was rushed to the University of Ilorin Teaching Hospital. Efforts to resuscitate him proved abortive and he was pronounced dead," according to a statement released by the Kwara State Government on April 3.
