Lagos state government to enforce compulsory face mask wearing
As the coronavirus pandemic continue to hit Nigeria, the Lagos state government has said that it will enforce compulsory wearing of face mask as from next week.
The decision was announced by Lagos state governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, at the State House in Marina on Monday.
He said that the decision is part of the steps the state government is taking to ensure the protection of the residents.
According to the governor, more than one million locally made face masks will distributed to Lagos residents this week. He urged residents not to purchase medical-grade face masks used by health workers, also assuring residents that the locally made ones will be sufficient.
The governor also cautioned residents not to lie and deceive health workers about their travel history and health condition, saying that those patients do not only endager their lives but the lives of the health workers.
The governor also revealed that some people, who lied to the health workers about their travel history, have been caught and will be prosecuted.
With 627 cases currently recorded in Nigeria, Lagos is the epicenter of the virus with 266 active cases, 13 deaths and 97 recoveries.
