380 Nigerian soldiers quit the Army

The Nigerian Army has approved the discharge of no fewer than 380 soldiers serving in the force on Saturday, after the soldiers formally quit.

According to a statement an informant in the army, 356 of the soldiers decided to quit their service because they showed no interest in the army, while the remaining 24 exited because they wanted to take traditional titles.

It is reported that another batch of six soldiers will be discharged by the Army based on recommendation of the Armed Force's Medical Board.

The Chief of Army Staff, Tukur Burutai, gave the approval of the discharge of the soldiers earlier this month. They are to go on terminal leave on December 20, after which they will finally be dissengaged on January 3, 2021.

Gen. Burutai was, on June 2019, quoted saying that "almost every setback that the Nigeria army has had in our operations in recent times can be traced to insufficient willingness to perform assigned tasks." He alleged that most of the Nigerian soldiers are lazy.
