Military neutralizes Boko Haram insurgents, recovers armed vehicles


Two sectors from the Multinational Joint Task Force have conucted an attack on Boko Haram insurgents at the Lake Chad Islands, otherwise known as Tumbums.

The sectors, consisting of Nigerian and Chadian Air Task Force, conducted extensive air raid on Boko Haram territories.

In the attack, at least 19 soldiers were killed and two gun trucks were destroyed. Four motorcycles, two gun trucks as well as ammunitions were also recovered.

According to the MNJTF Chief Military Public Information officer, Col. Timothy Antigha, the success of this attack is expected to further increase the chances of completely eliminating Boko Haram.

"Today's engagement was a cordinated air and ground operation. After intensive firefight, 19 Boko Haram terrorists were neutralised, while others fled. The combined force with the support of the air force destroyed two gun trucks and captured two more," Antigha said in a statement.

"Four motorcycles, as well as arms and ammunition, were also recovered. Troops of the MNJTF did not sustain any casuality. This effort is expected to further degrade and deplete the Boko Haram, thereby consolodating on the successes of previous synchronized operations conducted within the MNJTF area of operation," he added.
