A muslim cleric, Ibrahim Idris, has been charged for allegedly raping three daughters, aged twelve, nine and seven.
The mother of the victims reported the case to the police after a teacher of the school her daughters attend called her to listen to what her daughter said. She was told that her eldest daughter ran out of the class while being interrogated. She said her 12-year-old daughter was scared anytime she sees a male teacher because the cleric was sleeping with her.
The cleric, aged 26, had been residing with the victims' family for about seven years. According to the the victims' mother, she and her husband, who is also a cleric, summoned Ibrahim to their residence, but he denied all the allegations. They then took him to the police custody for questioning.
According to the PMNewsNigeria, the mother said:
''We asked him about the allegations and he insisted nothing happened. We took him to the police station for questioning and we were refrerred to the Mirabel Center at Ikeja for medical examinations.''
''I had asked Daughter B (9-years-old) about the allegations and she said it was true. I asked Daughter A (12-years-old) about the allegations, but she refused to tell me what happened.''
"However, when we got to the police station, Daughter A told me what happened.''
The cleric is said to have committed the crime while he stayed temporarily in the victims' house. The mother told the court that he used to stay on Fridays till Sundays.
The woman is to bring her children to court to testify, but she does not want to because ''she feels t may be traumatic for them.''
The presiding judge, Sybil Nwaka, said that preventing her children from testifying will amount to the offence of obstruction of justice.
