Several State Governments in Nigeria have been closing down schools, worship places and social gatherings of more than 50 persons, two state governments have state that they would not be shutting down any school or places of worship.
The first state is Edo state in the South-South part of the country. The Governor of the state, Godwin Obaseki, stated on Friday that "there is no plan to close down schools and places of love in the wake of the coronavirus pandemic."
"There is no plan to shut down places of worship except it becomes absolutely necessary. However, we would want to appeal for the sake of your congregation, we should look at how to keep people from being too close from one another. It is possible to place visual services," Obaseki said while receiving religious leaders in his office.
Edo currently has no confirmed case of the virus, but the governor made it known that his government has put preventive measures if the virus eventually hits the state.
The second state; Akwa Ibom, also a South-South state, will not be closing down schools. The governor of the state, Udom Emmanuel, made this known in a broadcast on Saturday. He stated that there is no need for his government to shut down schools since there is no confirmed case.
"For emphasis, let me state here unequivocally that there is no confirmed case of COVID-19 in Akwa Ibom state as I speak to you," the governor said.
He also said the state has put serious measures to prevent the importation of the virus into the state.
"The Emergency and Operation Centre (EOC), in Ikot Ekpene is ready to serve as an isolation centre to receive and care for any confirmed case of COVID-19 infection if it occurs," he said.
"There is no plan to shut down places of worship except it becomes absolutely necessary.
